BBQ Sloppy Joes

To make this homemade Sloppy Joes, brown the ground beef, add tomato, jalapeno pepper, ketchup, garlic powder, cumin, oregano, BBQ sauce and Worcestershire sauce, simmer until thickened.
What to serve with sloppy joes? Serve over English muffins, French fries or with this Smashed Potatoes with Cheese.
Yield: Serves 6
- 650 g lean ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 large tomatoes, diced
- 3/4 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons seeded and chopped pickled jalapeno pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons canola oil
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- shredded cheddar cheese
- English muffins
- salt & pepper to taste
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté for 6-7 minutes. Increase heat to medium-high; add the ground beef and brown until no longer pink, stirring occasionally.
Drain well and return to the skillet. Add the tomato, jalapeno pepper, garlic powder, cumin, oregano, ketchup, BBQ sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer covered over medium-low heat until mixture begins to thicken, about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Taste and adjust seasonings; add salt and pepper if needed.
Meanwhile, toast the English muffins. Serve the Sloppy Joes hot over toasted English muffins; sprinkle with cheese.
