French Onion Sandwich

I made this French onion sandwich for the first time and I was surprised how tasty it is. Try this French Onion Sandwich recipe for busy weekdays as a quick dinner or lunch. With just couple of simple ingredients, you can have a delicious sandwich in less than 30 minutes.

Yield: Serves 2

  • slices of French bread baguette or any kind of bread you like
  • 2 medium yellow onions, sliced into 1/4-inch thick
  • 3 tablespoons butter, plus more for buttering bread
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • 3 tablespoons beef broth
  • salt and black pepper to taste

In a large skillet, melt the butter and olive oil together over medium heat. Add the onions and saute for 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add salt, pepper and oregano. Give it a good stir. Cover the skillet and cook until the onions are soft and wonderfully golden, stirring occasionally.

Add the beef broth and cook covered until onions are golden brown. Scrape any pieces of onion that stick to the bottom of the skillet and remove from heat.

Preheat a large skillet over medium heat. Butter the slices of bread on one side. Place a slice of bread on the skillet, buttered side down. Sprinkle on a bit of the shredded cheese.
